More efficiency, less consumption.

BlueEFFICIENCY – savings potential successfully exploited.

A lot of work has been done on achieving low consumption and emissions for the V-Class. The savings of the top-specification V 250 d engine compared to the V6 engine of the Viano are impressive: Through downsizing, the 4-cylinder engine uses around 2 litres less per 100 km, but with comparable torque.

The V-Class has the following BlueEFFICIENCY measures on board as standard:

  • Fuel Economy rear axle
  • In-engine efficiency measures
  • Tall rear-axle ratio[1]
  • Two-stage turbocharging
  • Electromechanical steering
  • Electric suction fan
  • Alternator management
  • Refrigerant compressor with magnetic clutch
  • Fuel pump, electrically controlled
  • Fuel Economy low friction oil

BlueEFFICIENCY package – greater efficiency giving lower consumption[2].

BlueEFFICIENCY package measures implemented on the drive system and the aerodynamics have improved consumption figures and the CO2 emissions for the vehicle. In addition to the standard BlueEFFICIENCY measures, the ECO start/stop function, the Fuel Efficiency alternator and aerodynamically-shaped underfloor panelling all increase the efficiency of the vehicle.

The measures to reduce consumption and emissions in detail:

  • The ECO start/stop function switches off the engine temporarily when the vehicle is stationary, which helps to reduce consumption, particularly in urban and stop-and-go traffic
  • Fuel-efficiency alternator with enhanced efficiency reduces the burden on the engine

[1] Dependent on the specification and engine.

[2] The BlueEFFICIENCY package is optional for the engine versions with a 6-speed manual transmission and standard for all vehicles with 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission.
