All-wheel drive – Improved traction on the road and off-road

Plenty of pulling power and best handling.

The M class offers excellent handling in any terrain. This is thanks to 4MATIC permanent all-wheel-drive. It works in conjunction with the electronic dynamic handling system, consisting of ESP® and ETS.

4ETS, together with the basic ESP® functions ABS (anti-lock braking system), ASR (acceleration skid control) and DSR (Downhill Speed Regulation), distributes tractive power in a coordinated fashion to the four driven wheels and thus increases traction – in particular on changing surfaces.

If the "Offroad" switch (not available for ML 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC and ML 63 AMG) in the centre console is pushed, the characteristics of the dynamic handling systems, engine and transmission are automatically adapted to off-road-specific handling.

Outstanding handling: particularly on unstable roads, wet surfaces and snow, the all-wheel drive provides better road holding which in turn enhances safety.

Plenty of pulling power: In conjunction with the optional trailer coupling the M-Class has a maximum towing capacity of 3500 kilograms (3050 kilograms for the ML 63 AMG). The all-wheel-drive system and ESP® trailer stabilisation ensure enhanced safety when towing a trailer.

In particular on lose ground, in the wet or on snow the all-wheel-drive system provides improved traction and thus also enhanced safety.
