Four by four – safe moving off and acceleration, on poor road surfaces and in adverse weather conditions too: 4MATIC all-wheel drive will always spring into action when it's needed, as the rear axle engages automatically if the front axle is getting to the limits of its traction.
This system offers added safety and driving comfort at all times in the CLA 250 4MATIC and CLA 250 Sport 4MATIC. Thanks to a multi-disc clutch in the rear differential the torque can be split between front and rear axle at any ratio from 100 : 0 to 50 : 50 as the situation requires.
In conjunction with the 4ETS dynamic handling control system, this ensures optimal traction on wet and snowy roads, enhanced driving stability and improved handling on various road surfaces.
Enormously powerful: the 4ETS Electronic Traction System makes conventional differential locks unnecessary because the automatic brake impulses improve moving off on slippery surfaces and increase stability during demanding manoeuvres.
Low weight: thanks to the compact design, the intelligent choice of materials and the high level of efficiency, the weight is barely higher than that of similar models with front-wheel drive.
AMG model: the performance-oriented 4MATIC drive system of the CLA 45 AMG 4MATIC developed by Mercedes-AMG provides a combination of optimum traction and neutral handling typical of AMG. This is ensured by a multi-disc clutch integrated into the rear differential with AMG-specific electro-hydraulic control that permits a variable torque split from plain front-wheel drive to a ratio of 50 : 50.
