The dynamism of the B-Class is largely down to the powerful engines which, as well as delivering impressive performance, are also economical and environmentally friendly, thanks to improved in-cylinder flow and minimal friction losses. Three of the petrol engines are naturally aspirated units while the B 200 TURBO has an exhaust gas turbocharger.
In the diesel engines, common-rail technology ensures both high torque and low consumption. The common rail keeps the fuel at a permanently high pressure throughout the engine speed range and injects finely atomised, precisely metered quantities of fuel into the combustion chambers. The result is a reduction in fuel consumption and lower pollutant emissions.
